Our Summer Kitchen holds several tools that were used during the 18th and 19th centuries. The items were donations made to add to the authenticity of our kitchen and provide insight into the rigors of open-hearth cooking.

Mr. and Mrs. John Mackemull of Nutley donated two kitchen tools displayed in our Summer Kitchen. The Mackemull family lived on Lakeside Drive in the 1970s, and it is believed that they still have family in the area.

The first object is a ladle with a handle that is “22 inches long and having a cup with a diameter of 4-1/2 inches.”

The second object is a set of iron tongs, which were used to carry ice blocks from an ice wagon into the house.

Both items were received by the Historic Restoration Trust in August of 1974. They were some of the earliest items donated.
