1920s Fashion Presentation and Open House Tours

Marissa Motley, a second-year graduate student in the Costume Studies program at New York University, has been working as an intern at Kingsland Manor. With over ten years of professional experience in wardrobe styling and costume design, Marissa has researched a collection of 1920s beaded handbags and other accessories belonging to Lulu Hartman, the wife of speakeasy owner, Bernard Charles “Bus” McGinnity, and 1920s clothing belonging to a local artist and fashion designer, Mercedes Swan. Marissa will explain how the clothing and accessories reflect the culture of the 1920s, identifying the designers, techniques, and materials.

Tours of the Manor and refreshments popular in the 1920s will be offered after the presentation.

The presentation will take place at 2 pm in the ballroom.

The tour and presentation are free. Donations are appreciated and go towards the Kingsland Manor’s Dorothy Greengrove Memorial Scholarship program awarded annually to a deserving Nutley student.

The Kingsland Manor is located at the corner of Kingsland Street and Lakeside Drive. Entry and parking are on Lakeside Drive. Use 40 Lakeside Drive in your GPS to find Kingsland Manor and Parking.
